Workshop I-RIM 3D 2025 @Rome, Italy

Industry 5.0: Workplace Transformation with Next Generation Smart Robots
On 17 October 2025, IDRA organized the workshop “Industry 5.0: Workplace Transformation with Next Generation Smart Robots” at I-RIM 3D 2025, held in Rome (Italy).
The workshop was organized by Matteo Dalle Vedove, Edoardo Lamon, and Daniele Fontanelli and focused on the evolution of industrial robotics towards human-centered production paradigms, in line with ongoing European research activities.
Workshop Scope
Industry 5.0 brings humans back to the center of industrial production through effective human–robot collaboration. While collaborative robots enable shared workspaces, real-world deployment requires more than safety certification and simple coexistence.
The workshop explored practical challenges and recent advances in perception, control, and motion planning aimed at bridging the gap between laboratory research and real industrial applications. Particular attention was given to research outcomes and open challenges emerging from the EU-funded projects MAGICIAN and INVERSE, which address adaptive manufacturing, human-aware robotics, and intelligent automation for next-generation industrial environments.
These projects provided concrete use cases and technological foundations to discuss how next-generation smart robots can be safely, efficiently, and flexibly integrated into real production settings.
Invited Speakers
The workshop featured contributions from both academia and industry, including:
- Stefano Ghidoni, Università degli Studi di Padova
- Riccardo Caccavale, Università degli Studi di Napoli “Federico II”
- Francesca Negrello, JOiiNT LAB, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia
- Marco Todescato, Fraunhofer Italia
- Domenico Chiaradia, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna & Next Generation Robotics
- Marco Bolignari, Fluid Wire Robotics
The diversity of perspectives fostered discussion on how next-generation smart robots can enable safer, more adaptive, and truly collaborative industrial environments.
